Independent stores in Scotland have seen sales of frozen ethnic snacks rise dramatically, according to Geoff Burgess, managing director of Daloon Foods.
Quoting figures from Kantar Worldpanel he said consumer spending in the sector grew by 50.2% year on year in the 52 weeks to December 2014. The growth reflected a 60.8% rise in volumes and an increase of 29.1% in the number of buyers.
Chinese and Indian meals eaten during nights in are at the centre of the growth, Burgess suggested.
“Oriental and Indian frozen ethnic snacks dominate the market with a combined share by value of 75%,” he said.
Oriental frozen ethnic snacks remain the largest sector with a 53% share by value.”
