WHEN families and groups of friends gather round a festive table to celebrate, sauces and condiments are often more used than at ordinary meal times. Tracklements says Christmas calls for special table toppers.
Managing director Guy Tullberg said: “For example, our Cranberry, Port & Orange Sauce always performs particularly well around Christmas as does our Rich Redcurrant Jelly.”
In time for this Christmas, Tracklements has launched a new range it’s calling Charcuteriments.
Tullberg said: “With the rise in popularity of the charcuterie boards we wanted to offer a new way of enjoying Tracklements.”
• As part of a packaging makeover, Haywards Pickled Vegetables has introduced a ‘tang-o-meter’ on its labels.
A spokesperson said: “The new look label will stand out on shelf, reflecting the lip-smacking sensation of eating tangy pickles with bright colours and bold lettering.
“The clear call to action ‘Liven Up Your Food’ has been incorporated to demonstrate how pickled vegetables can add life to any dish.”
• Hawkshead Relish has launched three of its seasonal preserves in jars designed to be table-ready and to serve as Christmas gifts.
They contain handmade Hawkshead Christmas Chutney, Christmas Marmalade and Cranberry Sauce.
• Brands are crucial when it comes to sauces and condiments according to Unilever and it says more than 40% of consumers are not prepared to buy alternatives if their favourites are not available.
It says retailers should increase displays at Christmas.
Category manager Ade Adams said: “In winter, ensure that condiments such as cranberry and horseradish sauces are in stock, as people eat more hot meals.”
Over a fifth of annual sales of condiments occur in December, with market penetration of mustard 33% higher than usual and 42% of cranberry sauce’s sales going through tills in December, he added.
