THERE’S increasing consumer demand in the UK for dairy products, according to a report from research firm Canadean.
Consumer Trends Analysis: Understanding Consumer Trends and Drivers of Behaviour in the UK Dairy Food Market predicts that UK dairy market volume will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 1.8% up to 2018.
It predicts that in the five years from 2013 to 2018 the demand for yoghurt drinks in the UK will have grown 30% faster than demand for set yoghurt.
Official guidance recommends that children up to the age of nine need calcium, potassium, fibre and vitamins from cow’s milk, the report notes.
Raquel Perez-Lopez, analyst at Canadean, said: “Children and their parents are increasingly busy. More convenient dairy products are needed to suit their busy lifestyles.  Almost 5% of dairy products consumed by kids and babies are selected because they are convenient. That equates to a £193m market.”
