Thorntons Continental hits the cake aisle for the first time

BAKED goods firm Finsbury Food Group has expanded on its licensed celebration cake portfolio by bringing the Thorntons Continental range to the bakery aisle for the first time.
Marking the first cake product to roll out under the Thorntons Continental brand, Finsbury has introduced the Thorntons Viennese Continental Cake inspired by the Viennese Truffle chocolate from the brand.
Claire Cox, marketing manager at Thorntons, said: “We’ve had a long-standing partnership with Finsbury for many years, so working collaboratively to create this premium new product from the Thorntons Continental range felt like a natural next step.
“With the Thorntons range continuing to perform well, we saw a real opportunity to build on that momentum and give consumers a new way to enjoy one of our most recognisable chocolates. Bringing the Viennese Truffle to life as a premium celebration cake felt like the perfect way to do that.”
Available exclusively in 160 Asda stores, the cake takes the classic chocolate treat and transforms it into a decadent celebration cake to deliver an indulgent and more premium-end offer within the cakes ailse.
Crafted in line with the Thorntons Viennese Truffle, Finsbury has combined layers of chocolate and vanilla sponge with a rich chocolate frosting that is then topped with milk chocolate curls, decorative piping and finished with the Viennese Truffles on top.
Each cake serves up to 16 people and comes with an RRP of £17.
This also marks the latest expansion to Finsbury’s licensed cake range following the firm’s new Harry Potter inspired celebration cake, which was introduced to mark 25 years of the film franchise.
David Cotter, brand manager at Finsbury, said: “This is the first cake Finsbury has created as part of the Thorntons Continental range, so it’s an exciting step for us and one we see a lot of potential in.
“With a clear appetite for new Thorntons products beyond the chocolate box, we jumped at the opportunity to create something special to not only impress existing lovers of the brand but also attract new consumers.
“When it comes to treating yourself, shoppers are increasingly looking for something a little more premium, particularly when choosing a celebration cake, and this launch gives us the opportunity to meet that demand with a product backed by a household name synonymous with chocolate craftsmanship.”
