CCEP invites Commonwealth Games fans to vote through recycling

Commonwealth Games attendees have their voices heard

Drinks firm CCEP has rolled out unique recycling bins for Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games 2026 inviting attendees to cast their vote with them.

DRINKS giant Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) has brought a playful recycling activation to Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games through its new ballot bins.

Created in partnership with environmental charity Hubbub, each of the bins offer attendees the chance to vote on some Scottish staples. Spectators can cast their vote by recycling empty drinks containers into the matching side to have their opinion heard.

CCEP has said the new initiative has helped to make recycling more engaging for attendees, with the sensors in the bins keeping track on the number of empty drinks containers deposited by keeping track of the scores on a digital screen.

The questions focus on debates surrounding Glasgow, Scotland and the Games themselves with examples that include:

• Caramel Wafers or Teacakes.
• Kilts or Trews.
• Haggis or roast dinner.
• Personal best or gold medal.
• 100m sprint or marathon.
• Highland cow or Nessie.
• Ceilidh hero or ceilidh hazard.

The activation seeks to encourage more consumers to dispose of their containers responsibly and demonstrate how this playful approach can help to make recycling a more appealing option to attendees.

Jo Padwick, senior sustainability manager at CCEP GB, said: “The Commonwealth Games will bring thousands of people together to enjoy world-class sport, and we’re doing our bit to help spectators to recycle while they are here in Glasgow.

“Our Ballot Bins turn a simple everyday action into something fun that everyone can take part in. Whether fans are backing Nessie, a gold medal or the 100m sprint, every vote is also a reminder to dispose of empty drinks containers responsibly.”

Gavin Ellis, co-chief executive at Hubbub, said: “We love finding imaginative ways to make recycling more appealing to the public. These Ballot Bins bring a bit of fun to the stadium concourse, and aim to turn a simple sustainable habit into something more visible and interactive.”
