Fife-born bakery firm Bayne’s The Family Bakers has celebrated 70 years of its business with the opening of its 70th store in Perth’s Inveralmond Retail Park.

FIFE-BASED bakery brand Bayne’s The Family Bakers has marked 70 years of business with its 70th store opening in Perth’s Inveralmond Retail Park.

Founded in a single bakery in Lochore, Fife in 1954, Bayne’s has expanded over its time to become a beloved Scottish institution that is renowned for its quality baking and strong local connections.

While the firm now operates 70 shops across Scotland, it shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon as Bayne’s has already set its sights on continued expansion and further investments to come this year.

John Bayne, joint managing director of Bayne’s and third generation baker, said: “A decade ago, we had 490 colleagues supporting 52 shops. Today, we’ve nearly doubled our workforce to 960, ensuring we continue to bring fresh, quality baking to communities across Scotland.

“Looking ahead, we plan to open three to four new shops annually over the next decade while continuing to invest in product innovation and digital transformation to meet evolving customer needs.”

Bayne’s ambitious growth plans kicked off in 1975 when the firm first opened a store in Kinross before growing further into Perth, Dundee and Monifieth in the late 1990s to the early 2000s. The bakers also expanded into Edinburgh for the first time in 2012, before heading out west to Glasgow in 2018.

Most recently, Bayne’s completed a new freezer extension at its bakery to help further enhance its production capacity and allow it to meet growing demand across the country.

Stanley Bayne, chairman of Bayne’s and second generation baker, said: “Seventy shops in our 70th year – it’s a milestone that fills me with immense pride.

“My father, John, would be incredibly proud to see how far we’ve come; from opening our first store in 1954 to opening our 70th shop. Our success is a tribute to the generations of colleagues and bakers who have kept our ovens warm and our customers smiling.

“This new Perth shop is a symbol of our enduring commitment to Scottish baking traditions and the communities we serve.”
