Jersey Milk offers a golden, natural option
CONSUMERS are reaching for those more natural options across the dairy section in Scotland’s stores.
Driven primarily by younger generations that seek less processed options such as semi-skinned milk, dairy firms have been reporting a major rise in sales of Jersey milk.
One such firm that has noticed a strong rise here is Graham’s The Family Dairy, who has been witnessing this resurgence firsthand as the family business has recorded a 25% increase in sales of its Gold Top Milk, produced by its own herd of Jersey cows.
Dr Robert Graham, Graham’s The Family Dairy chairman, said: “In the 70s, everyone drank whole milk, but it fell out of favour when semi-skimmed took over, being seen as a healthier option.
“Now we’ve come full circle – people are realising the benefits of tasty, full-fat milk, high calcium milk like Gold Top, and embracing its natural goodness again.
“Our family dairy produces 90% of all Jersey milk sold in the UK. Not only is it a creamier option, it’s 18% higher in protein and 20% higher in calcium than ‘standard’ milk, it’s also rich in essential vitamins and minerals.
“Now more than ever, it’s appealing to the health conscious shopper, and consumers know that they are buying a product that is not ultra-processed.”
Similar to the booming popularity of the 80s staple cottage cheese, Gen Z trends has helped to fuel the resurgence of Jersey milk options, with a surge of searches across social media including TikTok.
And these new statistics has pushed Graham’s to work closely with Quality Milk Producers (QMP) to roll out a new five-figure marketing campaign to promote the uses and health benefits of Jersey milk during the festive months.
The campaign features a range of Christmas-inspired recipes, all of which benefit from the creamy flavour of Graham’s Gold Top Jersey milk.
Micheal Jones, chairman at QMP, said: “Our long-standing relationship with Graham’s Family Dairy, spanning 13 successful years, has been integral in bringing Gold Top to the forefront of premium dairy products.
“The firm’s dedication has not only enhanced the brand but also secured its place on shelves across all major supermarkets.
“This Christmas, we are thrilled to continue our partnership, celebrating the timeless appeal of Gold Top Milk and showcasing the luxurious taste and quality that make it the cream of the crop.
“Together, we remain committed to promoting traditional milk and expanding the Gold Top range. It’s a festive season made even richer with Gold Top.”
With this in mind, the firm reckons that convenience store retailers could see an extra boost in their sales this Christmas by stocking up on Graham’s Gold Top milk and provide for younger generations seeking more organic produce in the dairy section.
Carol Graham, market director at Graham’s The Family Dairy, said: “The Gold Top Jersey Milk is such a great product and, at this time of the year, it is really indulgent as well.
“It’s naturally higher in fat, protein and calcium so it’s absolutely ideal for baking, cooking and for all your Christmas festive treats and so, retailers could see an extra benefit to stocking up on it for this year.”
