SCOTTISH supporters of GroceryAid are cranking up their efforts to raise money for the charity this year.

A three-pronged approach is made up of the Checkout Scotland music event, the Just Dae It campaign for sponsored physical activities and the Scottish GroceryAid Christmas Hamper project.

Organisers have unveiled a stellar line-up of musicians and DJs for Checkout Scotland, which takes place on 31 August  at Barras Art & Design in Glasgow.

Crossover dance music icon Example will headline the bash, with Irish girl group B*Witched and Scottish indie rock band The Supernaturals also performing.

And the list of DJs taking part is also impressive, with radio favourites George Bowie and Cassi among those on the decks.

Other sets will come from DJ Naeem, Pretty Ugly, Barry Munoz, Jamie Lasgo and GroceryAid Scotland Branch co-chair Jim Harper.

He said: “We ran last year’s event as a one-off, with the aim of celebrating the huge efforts of the trade during Covid while raising funds and awareness for GroceryAid.

“The event was such a success and the feedback so positive that we felt there was an opportunity to establish it as part of the industry calendar.

“The format is simple – a festival atmosphere, three great bands, a unique venue, food, drink and DJs from 4pm to midnight plus activations from some of the best-loved brands in Scotland.”

Fellow co-chair Peter Steel highlighted the fact that GroceryAid supports everyone from c-store retailers to wholesalers and suppliers with financial aid and a free confidential helpline.

He said: “Checkout Scotland is a unique opportunity for the trade to gather, network and simply have fun. Events like this are vital in raising the funds that support colleagues across the industry.”

Those involved with the Just Dae It campaign have completed steps challenges, half marathons, a corporate cycle and a rowathon among other activities to raise more than £45,000 in recent years.

Coming up, there is a focus on the Edinburgh Kiltwalk on 17 September, which people can enter either as individuals or as a group, with five, 15 and 21-mile walk options available.

Go to www.thekiltwalk.co.uk/events/edinburgh to find out how to sign up and specify GroceryAid as your nominated charity.

Donations can also be made via justgiving.com/team/GAScotlandCommitteeJustDaeIt – or email russel.morrison@cjlang.co.uk or christinagrant@mdlz.com for details on how to get involved.

Christmas Hamper project organisers are looking for new businesses to support the initiative to raffle 75 hampers, either through donating products or by taking a hamper to raffle for colleagues.

Contact Emmajane.Thomas@sainsburys.co.uk or marc.gardner@mccurach.co.uk to support the effort.

Thomas said: “It’s great to see colleagues win special prizes by raffling hampers. You’re able to raise awareness of the charity and have some fun.”
