Spotlight on DRS insights

DEPOSIT Return Scheme administrator Circularity Scotland has hosted a conference as Scotland prepares to introduce the scheme.

More than 600 representatives from drinks producers, retailers and hospitality businesses were in attendance as they all aimed to gain insight ahead of the go-live date in August.

The conference featured a keynote speech from Greens MSP Lorna Slater, who is responsible for introducing the scheme, as she reiterated that the Scottish Government is “listening and responding” to industry concerns over DRS.

Slater, pictured, also revealed that there would be further announcements from the government to address these industry concerns.

David Harris, chief executive at Circularity Scotland, said: “With just under a year to go until DRS goes live, we’re calling for businesses across Scotland to join us in making sure the scheme is a success.

“We know that businesses have concerns about how the scheme will operate and how it will affect them – and we’ve heard from many of those during this conference.

“But that’s exactly why we held this event – to create a forum for all those who will be involved in delivering the scheme to get the information they need.”
