Aldi acceleration continues

AFTER recording remarkably strong sales throughout 2018, Aldi finished the year with a flourish by opening a whopping eight new stores in one day.

24 stores were opened across November and December, including one in Shettleston in Glasgow, coming as part of Aldi’s long-term target to have 1,200 UK stores by 2025.

The discounter has more than doubled its market share since 2010. According to Kantar Worldpanel data,  in the 12 weeks to 4th November, Aldi grew sales by 15.5% and it held a 7.6% share of the market. (For more on supermarket grocery share see page 12).
