HUNDREDS of entries were submitted, four finalists were selected, and now the winner of Swizzels’ Sweetest Invention competition has been revealed: Great British Dessert Chews.
The firm offered the public the chance to design its next sweet creation as part of its 90th anniversary celebrations.
Four products were eventually shortlisted, including ‘Love Yourself Hearts’ (featuring positive messages to help people feel good about themselves); ‘Pop Lollies’ (fizzy pop flavoured boiled lollies with a sherbet centre); and ‘Mini Coladas’ (coconut and pineapple flavoured Squashies, inspired by the Pina Colada cocktail).
But the winner was chosen by the Swizzels judges to be ‘Great British Desserts’, a mixed bag of individually wrapped chew bars inspired by classic British dessert flavours such as Sticky Toffee Pudding, Apple Pie & Custard and Strawberry Trifle.
Jeremy Dee, managing director of Swizzels, said:
‘‘The public has spoken, and we are thrilled they have chosen Great British Dessert Chews to be produced. It’s a creation that is completely unique in the sweet market and has already captured the nation’s attention.
“We plan to start production early next year, ready for sale later in 2019.’’
