Walkers celebrates turning 70
WALKERS turns 70 this year and the brand has kicked-off its celebrations by revisiting popular flavours from years gone by.
Parent firm PepsiCo has introduced six limited edition flavours to the Walkers range, with each flavour celebrating the culinary stylings of a particular decade.
Flavours in the limited edition range are Coronation Chicken (1950s), Roast Lamb & Mint (1960s), Cheese Fondue (1970s), Chicken Tikka Masala (1980s), BBQ Rib (1990s) and Sweet Chili (2000s).
All six flavours are available in both single serve and multipack formats. The packs are priced at RRP 65p for 40g packs, £1.50 for a six pack, £3 for 14 and £4 for a 24 pack.
Walkers’ 70th birthday celebrations aren’t restricted to the limited edition packs either, as the core range is also available in a special birthday pack which carries the message ‘Celebrating 70 years of the nation’s favourite’.
Support for the anniversary includes two separate TV ads, digital content and in-store activation.
The ads, which first aired last month, are scheduled to run until the end of May.
Rachel Holms, senior marketing director at PepsiCo said: “To have been a household name in homes up and down the country for the last 70 years is a remarkable achievement.
“We would like to thank the British public for the support that they have shown us over the decades, and are proud to be the ‘nation’s favourite crisp brand’.
“What better way to mark the occasion than doing what Walkers does best and bringing to life the iconic flavours from the decades – from cheese fondue to chicken tikka masala?
“Our TV creatives will further engage shoppers, ensuring Walkers is front of mind.
“Our flavour campaigns have always been popular with shoppers and retailers benefit enormously from the buzz that they generate.
“We are confident that this campaign will similarly capture the hearts of the great British public,” she said.
• Walkers limited edition 70th birthday flavours follow the launch of the brand’s new Max Strong range earlier this year.
Available in three flavours, ‘Chilli & Lime’, ‘Hot Chicken Wings’ and ‘Jalapeno & Cheese’ – the range is being marketed as complementary to different styles of beer.
