Scotmid boss on top form

Scotmid chief executive John Brodie delivers his acceptance speech on receiving the 2018 Scottish Grocer Industry Achievement Award supported by Pernod Ricard

SOME of the brightest stars in convenience retailing were out in force for the Scottish Grocer Awards 2018.

John Brodie, chief executive of Scotmid, took top honours on the night when he was presented with the Industry Achievement Award supported by Pernod Ricard.

Another big winner was East Lothian retailer Ferhan Ashiq who picked up this year’s Entrepreneur Award supported by JTI.

A trio of double award winners were also celebrated on the night, with teams from Bourtreehill Supermarket Irvine, Broadway Convenience Store, Edinburgh, and Spar Renfrew all coming away with two gongs each.

Other winners on the night, hosted by irreverent Scottish comedian Craig Hill, included stores in Aberdeenshire, Ayrshire, Blantyre, Cardonald, Dumbarton, Edinburgh, Fort Augustus, Irvine, Kirkcaldy, Milnathort, Renfrew, Peterhead.
