NOTHING says Christmas dinner like Brussels Sprouts and in Scotland that’s truer than anywhere else in the UK, according to Mash Direct.
Figures from the family-owned produce business show 70% of Scottish consumers say they like sprouts compared with 59% in England and 64% in Northern Ireland, making traditional vegetables a Christmas retailing essential.
And while some consumers will prepare their turkey and trimmings from scratch, Mash Direct reckons there’s a window for convenience to meet the demand of customers who may wish to spend less time in the kitchen on Christmas day.
Jack Hamilton, director at Mash Direct, said: “When it comes to the holiday period, we understand that people don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen all day and missing out on the fun to be had with the rest of the family.
“We listen to our customers’ feedback and deliver on what they want, which is why we are able to build such a strong bond with them because they know that we are a brand that they can trust.
“People don’t feel guilty about using our products as they have the same taste and texture as homemade food.
“My family have been growing our heritage varieties of vegetables for six generations and we steam cook and pack everything on the family farm.”
