Convenience can win with fruit teas
FRUIT and flavoured teas have been sweetening tea sales figures with the variety on offer attracting more and more consumers to the category.
That’s the view of Twinings, and the firm reckons the trend towards fruit infusions in recent years is helping to stimulate interest and bring new shoppers into tea.
David Rich, channel business manager for UK and Ireland at Twinings, pointed to figures showing 2% sales growth in the green tea sector over the last year as evidence that flavoured teas, such as Twinings Green with Lemon, are proving popular.
Rich said Twinings’ recent launch of a new fruit infusions range will allow retailers to build on this trend.
“Products such as Twinings Strawberry & Raspberry are providing retailers with an alternative to sugary, carbonated drinks which help their customers feel better from the outside in.
“In addition to this, mapping the trend in the coffee category, consumers are increasingly experimenting with iced teas, creating concoctions using products such as Twinings Peppermint Tea as a base to create healthier, natural and refreshing drinks,” he said.
Rich suggested that retailers stock a minimum of two products in key tea sub-categories – speciality, green tea, and fruit infusion – if they wish to make the most of the increase in demand for flavours.
