Still to master the details


ALTHOUGH many retailers say they are aware of tobacco manufacturing and retailing regulation changes that result from the EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD2) they don’t know all the details, research commissioned by JTI has shown.
An independent survey of 250 retailers showed 98% of retailers knew that TPD legislation would affect the tobacco category, but 33% were unaware that it came into effect for retailers in May 2017. And 76% were unaware that e-cigarettes are affected by the legislation too.
The survey found 89% of respondents are currently looking to maintain their SKUs, 98% are maintaining layout of their products in the gantry, 91% are informing customers of upcoming changes and 44% are training staff on the legislation.
