DESPITE a slight decline in the UK ice cream market, the premium sector is showing growth according to Bill Thain, commercial director at Mackie’s of Scotland.
The brand celebrates 30 years in the market this year, and has marked it by launching its first seasonal lines. Sicilian Lemon & Meringue flavour is available now and will be replaced by Chocolate & Orange flavour in the autumn.
Thain said: “Ice cream consumers enjoy trying out new flavours.
Creating personalised new flavours is a theme involved in our celebration of 30 years of making Mackie’s ice cream – we will have a consumer driven campaign to create 20 new flavours which we will bring to the Royal Highland Show in June.”
Another part of the birthday celebrations will be an online chance for consumers to win ice cream parties by sharing their Mackie’s Memories.
And the firm is also using its anniversary to look forward to the future. Finance director Gerry Stephens said: “Opportunities for ice cream in the export market have been fruitful, with 500% increase through new sales in Taiwan, a growth in sales to Costco Korea and expansion plans in the pipeline for India.”
Managing director Mac Mackie added: “We are committed to continued investment in product development, our infrastructure, innovation, staff and renewables to work towards our aim to grow to a turnover of £20m by 2020.”
