THE organiser of RRED, the Responsible Retailing of Energy Drinks campaign, Edinburgh councillor Norma Austin Hart (pictured), has been meeting with industry group the British Soft Drinks Association.
RRED already has 30 Scottish retailers who have pledged not to sell energy drinks to under-16s. Councillor Hart says she wants the brands, who already give “not recommended for children” messages on containers, to back bans on sales to children.
She said: I appreciate that it is a sensitive time for the industry given huge interest in public health, however I am clear that these drinks should not be consumed by children.”
