Margiotta goes Nisa

INDEPENDENT Edinburgh retailer Margiotta Food and Wine has moved to Nisa from Costcutter.

The seven stores in the group will now be supplied by Nisa, after founder and director Franco Margiotta decided to make the change following the Costcutter deal with P&H.
Margiotta said: “It was really quite a simple decision to make. We had always been supplied by Nisa, albeit through Costcutter for the last few years, and with that strong relationship already established, we decided to go with the company.”
Margiotta stores are located in Edinburgh on Ashley Terrace, Lasswade Road, Warrender Park Road, Dundas Street, Northumberland Street, Comiston Road and now Polwarth Gardens.
Nisa says the seven Margiotta Food & Wine stores have a combined turnover in excess of £7.5m and it predicts the company will make an extra £1m next year from its new store at Polwarth Gardens.
The Margiotta family migrated from post-war Italy to Leith in Scotland seeking work. The business began as ice cream parlours plus tobacco and confectionery.

The stores, which are run by around 115 staff including family members, stock the company’s own-label ranges, local produce and use the firm’s own imagery.
“Richard Scrimgeour, Nisa retail controller for independent & specialist, said: “We are delighted to have Franco on board, he has a fantastic estate and a great team full of passion for quality retailing.
“We have provided new range details and drawn store plan suggestions in order to create the foundations of a critical path. That includes volume tracking against rebate earnings and plans to up-weight the brand interaction with their consumers by enhancing he marketing package.”
