MOVE over sprouts: according to frozen food giant Birds Eye, frozen vegetables such as garden peas and petit pois perform particularly well at Christmas, as consumers look for convenient vegetables to store in the freezer around the Christmas period.
According to Kantar, frozen peas in Scotland were worth £198,000 in December 2012, demonstrating a growth of 88% in comparison to the Christmas of 2011. The smaller 400g bag of peas was also worth £174,000 to the convenience sector in 2012.
A spokesperson said: “At Birds Eye we work hard to showcase the fantastic ‘fresher than fresh’ food that is available.
“This is particularly important to shoppers keen to avoid the supermarket during the busy Christmas period.”
