Speyside whisky brand Glen Moray has unveiled its latest temptation to the off-trade with the launch of its Calvados Cask-aged Forbidden Fruits dram.

SINGLE malt Scotch whisky brand Glen Moray is invited avid whisky fans to give in to temptation with its new launch Forbidden Fruit.

Inspired by the story of Adam & Eve, the new whisky has been finished off in French oak casks that were previously used to age Calvados – France’s historic and rich apple brandy.

This marks the third whisky the Glen Moray’s ‘Xperience Collection’ which encourages consumers to explore more variety from the spirit and discover how different cask finishes can craft unique drams. The new Forbidden Fruit follows on from Glen Moray’s Phoenix Rising and Twisted Vine expressions.

Glen Moray has experimented with Calvados Casks with the new Forbidden Fruit launch.

Parent firm La Martiniquaise Bardinet (LMB) UK said the Glen Moray team was inspired by the subtle fruit notes and warm spices found in Calvados and inspired them to take a single malt aged whisky that had been initially aged in bourbon casks and laid it down in Calvados casks to explore how the apple brandy would marry with their whisky’s flavour profile.

The resulting dram has been described as brimming with notes of orchard fruits, sweet French pastries and fresh flowers. To taste, Glen Moray has said consumers will find elements of apple pie, baking spice, vanilla custard and barley sugar with some subtle wood tannins and acidity.

The dram has also been described to hold a long finish as well, with an initial spice that gives way to tastes of oak, poached pears and cloves.

The whisky comes housed in Glen Moray’s classic dark blue outer box with a striking red apple that takes centre stage to improve stand-out on shelves. The apple is cradled by golden leaves as a serpent winds its way through the design.

Glen Moray Forbidden Fruit is available from specialist whisky retailers in a 700ml bottle at a strength of 40% ABV and an RRP of £32 per bottle.

Iain Allan, global brand ambassador at Glen Moray, said: “Cask exploration has been a huge part of the Glen Moray Distillery story for over a century, and Forbidden Fruit is a wonderful new testament to this heritage.

“It is a sweet, spicy and very morish single malt which we’re sure will be a tempting treat for whisky fans to explore, whether they are connoisseurs or new to single malts.”
