Islay whisky brand Smokehead has secured a Gold Award at the World Whisky Awards 2026 in recognition for its Terminado tequila cask-aged dram.

ISLAY whisky brand Smokehead has attained a Gold Medal accolade at the World Whisky Awards for its Terminado variant.

Providing a single malt expression that has been given a finish in casks that formerly held tequila, Smokehead Terminado provides consumers with notes of agave with a fiery peat whisky to deliver an array of tastes including smoke and citrus with peat, toffee, lime and peach.

The whisky picked up the gong at the formal ceremony held in Edinburgh on 4 December in recognition of the unique dram.

Marking one of eight Smokehead whiskies, created by family-firm Ian Macleod Distillers, these are vigorous whiskies that stand out from the crowd – uncompromising, unexpected and defiantly different.

Galina Grozdanova, senior brand manager for Smokehead, said: “Naturally, we are thrilled but not surprised that this exceptional spirit caught the imagination and admiration of the judges.

“We thank them for recognising this whisky as the exceptional expression that it is. Smokehead Terminado appeals to those whisky lovers who love smoky Islay whiskies but who wish for something that is disruptively different.”
