A spirit to help test the heat with Penrhos Pear & Chilli Gin

HANDCRAFTED gin brand Penrhos Gin is testing to see if consumers can handle the heat with its new Wonky Pear and Chilli Gin.
The new spirit comes after a collaboration between the farm craft gin brand and food company Oddbox to deliver the new limited edition gin.
Penrhos has said this marks the first time the UK has launched a ‘Pear and Chilli’ flavoured gin and aims to capture some attention from consumers through the trending ‘swicy’ – sweet and spicy – flavour that has taken shoppers by storm.
The fiery new spirit marks the second collaboration between the two brands following 2023’s Cucumber and Apple Gin launch. Each collector’s edition bottle contains rescued pears and British jalapeño chillies that couldn’t make supermarket shelves after being deemed “too odd”.
This also follows up on Penrhos Gin’s latest product made with wonky fruit after the brand launched its limited edition Wonky Strawberry Gin in summer 2025.
Further to this, Penrhos said it was determined to support local British farming through the limited edition launch and support the West Sussex-grown jalapeño crop, which reportedly delivered a bumper crop due to the British summer’s record temperatures.
The limited-edition Oddbox Penrhos Wonky Pear and Chilli Gin comes bottled at 42% ABV and is available via Penrhos Spirits‘ online store as well as Oddbox’s website for a price of £34.95.
To celebrate the launch, both brands have created a ‘Pick Your Pearsonality’ quiz to test gin lovers and see if they prefer sweet, savoury or bold in their cocktail flavour preference, with personalised Pear and Chilli Gin cocktail recipes for each profile.
Harriet Evans, co-founder of Penrhos Spirits, said: “We are incredibly proud of our new Pear & Chilli Gin which has been our most challenging Gin to create to date. Oddbox has again worked with us on this exciting flavour combination and this year’s wonky and incredibly spicy jalapeños means we have had to completely rethink our approach to achieve this right balance of flavours.
“This is a gin for those who can handle the heat. Our Gin Tasting panel had an absolute blast fine-tuning the unique flavour – there were some seriously ‘heated’ debates about spice levels. The winning blend delivers a serious kick of warmth to complement the sweet pear notes which will delight spice and gin lovers alike.”
Emilie Vanpoperinghe, chief exec and co-founder of Oddbox, said: “Our new collaboration with Penrhos Gin proves that the best flavours often come from the most unexpected places. We know that our customers love the variety and discovery they get from rescuing fruit and veg, so this collaboration with Penrhos gives them a unique way to enjoy these perfectly tasty chillies and pears in a sophisticated gin blend. It all helps to support growers and show what’s possible when we rethink food waste.”
