Three stars awarded to Simon Howie Streaky Smoked Bacon
PERTHSHIRE-BASED butchery brand Simon Howie has picked up a hat trick of Great Taste Awards, including a Three Star accolade for its Streaky Smoked Bacon.
For the first time in the brand’s history, Simon Howie has been awarded Three Stars for its Streaky Smoked Bacon, but also secured Two Stars for its Smoked Back Bacon and One Star for its Premium Steak Lorne products. This marks 24 total gongs that the Perthshire butcher has secured at the Great Taste Awards over the last nine years.
Speaking on the Smoked Streaky Bacon product, Great Taste Awards judges said: “Amazingly thin rashers of bacon that smelled and tasted as good as they looked with a gorgeous depth of savouriness with a subtle sweet smokiness that was simply irresistible. A superb example of how crisp, streaky bacon should taste.
“Meaty with treacle-like sweetness, the flavour is persistent while the texture dissolves slowly in the mouth. It is perfection. The true work of an artisan.”
To celebrate this Three Star award, Simon Howie has named an actual star ‘Smoked Streaky Bacon’. The star, which forms part of a three-star constellation, marks a fun way for the brand to create an everlasting memory of the occasion.
The Great Taste Awards are judged by 500 of the most coveted food and drink experts including chefs, restauranteurs, food writers and critics. Less than 2% of the more than 14,000 entries secured a Three Star accolade this year – highlighting the quality of the Simon Howie product.
