GroceryAid Scotland’s industry festival builds support with musician Callum Beattie

THE GroceryAid Scotland team is all systems go for the flagship Checkout Scotland music event after it was revealed branch supporters had raised more than £100,000 for the charity for the second year running.
Plans are well under way for the gig, which promises a cracking line-up of acts headlined by Scottish singer-songwriter Callum Beattie, who has gone from a grassroots singer to selling out at the OVO Hydro.
The fundraiser will be returning to the Barras Art and Design (BAaD) venue in Glasgow on 28 August.
Convenience store chain One O One, Finsbury Food Group and Allwyn have signed up after AG Barr, Britvic, Highland Spring and Buckfast announced their support earlier in the year.
Other leading brands and convenience channel operators are expected to join, too.
The committee was told that there was increased convenience retailer awareness compared with previous years.
And with ticket sales already going well, Checkout organisers say they aim to see more c-store owners and staff among the expected crowd of up to 800.
Independent retailers, wholesalers, Scottish brands and national supporters can expect to enjoy an evening of networking, fundraising and live entertainment alongside a host of activations from sponsors.
Co-chair Matthew Howie said: “It’s great to see the Scottish committee and branch continuing the good work of recent years in raising awareness and money.
It’s also important to spell out that, while our fundraising grows, so does the amount of GroceryAid support and cash grants given to industry colleagues here. In fact, Scots get more per capita from the charity than sector employees anywhere else in the UK.
“So, every penny we raise in Scotland gets spent here.”
