SEVEN Spar Scotland stores have been awarded Premium status from the Healthy Living Programme (HLP) after supporting healthy lifestyles in local areas.

As part of the HLP’s Retailer Development Programme (RDP), four company owned Spar stores and three independents have all received the top award from this programme.

This includes:

Spar Scotland Company Owned Stores
• Spar Bo’ness
• Spar Crosshouse
• Spar Garthamlock
• Spar Hillfoot Road

Independent Spar Stores
• Spar Blantyre
• Spar Condorrat
• Spar Renfrew

Paula Middleton, head of marketing at Spar Scotland, said: “Our partnership with the HLP has been long-standing, and we have worked together on numerous campaigns, from summer roadshows to in-store events and primary school visits.

“We are incredibly proud of our stores reaching Premium status and looking forward to supporting more Spar retailers in achieving this recognition.”

The RPD launched in 2023 and is designed to encourage Scottish convenience stores to improve their selection of healthy products in store and support consumers in making healthier choices.

Premium status stores must meet strict criteria as part of this in areas such as merchandising, product range, affordability, sustainability, food-to-go options, food waste management and community involvement.

The RDP has three levels: Essential, Core and Premium and helps to provide retailers with a pathway to each goal. Currently there are a total of 17 stores in Scotland that hold Premium status.

Kathryn Neil, programme director at the HLP, said: “Spar Scotland is a major supporter of the HLP, and we are delighted that they have demonstrated their commitment to their customers and local communities by achieving Premium level through out RDP.

“It is important to give the stores the recognition for all the hard work that they’ve put into encouraging their customers to make healthier choices.”
