DUNBAR-BASED brewery Belhaven has launched its core Belhaven Best brew in a bottle format – a first for the beer brand since its launch in 1991.

Belhaven Best will now be available in a 500ml bottles across Morrisons stores in Scotland, providing consumers across the country with a fresh format for the session ale. The Belhaven Best bottles will also roll out to Asda stores later in April.

Previously only available in a canned option in the off-trade, Belhaven Best offers a balanced and refreshing brew made from malted barley, fresh local water and the brewery’s unique Belhaven yeast. The final result offers notes of toffee and caramel.

The branding on the bottle nods to the brand’s iconic malting chimneys of Belhaven Brewery where the Best is made, with rays of sunshine illustrated on the label as if shining down on the chimneys to help represent Belhaven’s hometown of Dunbar, on East Lothian’s ‘golden coastline’.

Consumers will also be able to pick up – for a limited time only – unique purple labelled beer bottles. Following on from an April Fool’s joke that saw Belhaven tell its social media followers that Best would be launching in a purple colour, customers will now be able to grab a limited run purple label of Belhaven Best, though the beer itself is not purple.

Fiona Matheson, marketing manager at Belhaven Brewery, said: “We know that Belhaven Best is a firm favourite when it comes to choosing a pint in Scottish pubs and we continue to explore ways to innovate our existing brands to meet drinkers’ needs.

“it’s exciting to be launching a new format for Belhaven Best after 34 years in the market and offer more options for consumers to enjoy a beer.”
