A look at what’s going on across the convenience channel and associated businesses and organisations
GroceryAid Scotland team’s vision for the future

THE new leaders of the GroceryAid Scotland branch are working on a vision to modernise and refresh the charity’s structure and activities north of the border.
The aim is to do more to raise awareness about what the charity can do, particularly among convenience channel workers, recruit new members, make everyone in the branch feel involved and included, and continue the vital fundraising efforts.
The main committee will shape the future direction, growth and initiatives of the branch.
Members in the wider branch will be encouraged to get involved with subgroups, lead and promote GroceryAid events and support the charity at industry events.
Most recently, the GroceryAid team, alongside the Mines Advisory Group, managed to raise £5,380 at the SWA Achievers Awards – with £2,290 of this going to the industry charity. Jane Blackhall, joint chair of GroceryAid Scotland, said: “This just goes to show the power of attendance and strong relationships at events like these.”
Albert Bartlett’s landmark donations to FareShare

LEADING potato supplier Albert Bartlett has now provided the equivalent of 15million meals to FareShare.
The landmark sum has been achieved during a 15-year partnership to support the charity’s mission to tackle food waste for social good.
Among the beneficiaries is The Heart of Scotstoun charity in Glasgow, which has used surplus potatoes from Albert Bartlett to support its community cafe and provide food to help families in need.
Julie Cunningham, of the Scotstoun charity, said: “Partnerships like these make a real impact in tackling food insecurity.”
The Cumberland ready to help Scottish retailers

SCOTTISH c-store retailers and independent grocers are among those who can now benefit from The Cumberland Building Society’s services.
The society, an expert in supporting the hospitality sector, is expanding its commercial offering to food and drink retailers, wholesalers and producers across Scotland and the north of England.
It will provide services including mortgages, current accounts and business savings accounts.
Scott McKerracher, of The Cumberland, said: “We believe in responsible banking that puts people first. We’re excited to extend our offering.”
