SCOTMID and delivery platform Scoffable have joined forces to provide shoppers with a new service.

The partnership sees the West Lothian-based app outfit, known for its takeaway deliveries experience, venture into the grocery market for the first time.

Following a successful trial in three Scotmid stores, the service will give coverage to 68 stores – bringing convenient grocery delivery to more households across Scotland.

Shoppers can choose from up to 7,000 items, depending on the store, and have their groceries delivered in about an hour for a delivery fee of just £3 and a service charge of 50p.

Daniel Jones, co-founder of Scoffable, said: “We’re delighted to bring Scoffable’s seamless ordering experience into the grocery market through our partnership with Scotmid. This collaboration is an exciting step for us.”

Stuart Forsyth, food online development manager at Scotmid, added: “Scoffable’s strong reputation in the takeaway sector and its innovative platform makes it an ideal partner as we expand our online grocery offering.”

Meanwhile, Scotmid “jail birds” have raised more than £16,500 in support of cancer care charity Maggie’s.

The initiative, dubbed “Jail or Bail”, saw a team of six banged up in The Lost Close in Edinburgh, on 29 November.

The team worked together to fundraise their bail money and smashed through their target goal of £10,000 with almost three hours to spare.

Team member Lynne Ogg said: “Seeing our professional and personal community come together to support such a vital cause has been truly humbling.”

•Brian Boyle has been appointed as chief operating officer (retail) at Scotmid. He has previously had senior roles at Asda, Safeway and Morrisons in a retail career of 30-plus years.

“I’m excited to join Scotmid at this dynamic time for retail,” said Brian. “I look forward to working closely with the team to build on Scotmid’s rich legacy and continue to provide excellent service to the communities we serve.”
