New collection to capture the depth of sherry casks
HIGHLAND single malt scotch brand The Glendronach has unveiled its new ‘The Master’s Anthology’ to highlight the flavours that come from sherry cask maturations.
Curated by acclaimed master blender Rachel Barrie, the anthology marks a near 200 year history in crafting rich and complex single malts from the brand.
The new collection comprises three non-age statement single malts, with each expression offering consumers a different experience of flavours of Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
‘The Master’s Anthology’ begins with Ode to The Valley, which is a fruit-forward dram with floral nectar and summer berry notes that has been matured in port and sherry casks. It comes bottled at 46.2% with an RRP of £67 per bottle.
Next is the Ode to The Embers and offers a rare peated expression in the series as The Glendronach said the dram aims to celebrate the history of when malt kilns would cloak barley grain in a warm smoke and the scent of smouldering peat carried through into the whisky.
The Ode to The Embers mixes this warming peat smoke with a dominant spiced flavour from Oloroso sherry casks which is then further enriched in Pedro Ximénez casks. The expression is bottled at 48.4% ABV with a higher RRP of £72.
The richest and final expression in this collection is Ode to The Dark, that offers layers of chocolate, black cherry and dates on the nose and tastes of smooth crème caramel. The expression has been aged in a Pedro Ximénez cask and contains the highest ABV of the series at 50.8% as well as the highest RRP of £77

“Ode to The Valley sings of an abundance of ripe fruit, it is the landscape of The Glendronach Distillery in full glory, while Ode to The Embers cloaks warm and rich spice in smouldering wisps of smoke, speaking of the days of old in the Valley of Forgue.
“Ode to The Dark enrobes velvet chocolate over dark plum and black cherry, caramelised dates and coffee, to bask The Glendronach in rich splendour.
“This anthology embodies the essence to The Glendronach and tells a story of our history, our heart and our dedication.”
