Spanish beer firm rolls out Japanese beer
SPANISH brewery firm Damm has been announced as the UK distributor for the Japanese premium beer Kirin Ichiban in the UK.
Damm has signed a long-term deal with Kirin Holdings brewery to become the exclusive distributor in the UK for authentic Kirin Ichiban beer and the agreement is set to commence on 1 January 2025.
Kirin Ichiban is described as a “flavourful yet smooth beer”, with a malt taste that is balanced by the bitterness of the hops used to brew the drink.
Along with this, the beer also has fruity notes that come from Kirin’s original yeast, with some floral aromas from the selected hop varieties.
Damm says these elements make Kirin Ichiban the perfect fit for authentic Japanese cuisine and will help to ensure the brew’s popularity here in the UK, where Japanese food is massively popular with many consumers.
The Barcelona-based business also said its main activity is the production, bottling and distribution of beer as well as other drinks including water, soft drinks and milk and is present in more than 130 countries across the globe.
With this in mind, Damm reckons it will succeed in introducing the Kirin Ichiban brand across the UK and offer British consumers another Japanese beer to consider in their purchases.
A spokesperson for Damm said: “‘Kirin’ has been sold in the UK since 1993 and is the only major beer brewed exclusively with First Press wort – hence the name ‘Ichiban’, meaning ‘the first one’.
“Thanks to this unique method, it is a flavourful yet smooth beer, with a gentle malt character, finely balanced by the bitterness of the hops.”
