Scotmid Co-op has pledged to continue supporting the HLP Welby Breakfast initiative with a commitment to contribute towards them for the next 12 months.

SCOTMID Co-op has pledged a 12-month support package to support the Welby Breakfast initiative, as part of the Healthy Living Programme (HLP).

The partnership will ensure that over 4,600 children in high-depravation areas start their day with a nutritious meal and will benefit 16 primary schools within Scotmid communities.

Scotmid will work with the HLP team to provide fresh good and essential equipment to deliver breakfasts for the 16 primary schools, which sees children from primaries 1-7 get a healthy start to the day with a free breakfast.

Lynne Ogg, head of membership & community engagement at Scotmid, said: “Our core purpose is to make a positive difference in our communities. By ensuring children start the day with a nutritious breakfast, we’re helping to set them up for success in the classroom.”

This makes up part of Scotmid’s own dedication to supporting local communities’ well-being.

The HLP team also recently celebrated 20 years of its hard work promoting healthier diets, and it’s clear this won’t be slowing down in 2025.

During this time, HLP has engaged with over 37,000 pupils in Scotland through the Welby Breakfast initiative.

The HLP team also worked extensively with the Co-op earlier this year, helping to deliver its Welby Breakfast initiative to small island communities in the Hebrides.

Gillian Edgar, field manager at HLP, said: “We are delighted to have Scotmid’s support for this vital initiative. Ensuring children start their day with a healthy meal makes a huge difference in their ability to learn and grow.

“It’s fantastic to see such a strong community commitment to improving the lives of young people.”
