Cairngorms produced single malt whisky Tomintoul has built up its non-age statement series with the launch of three new wine cask finishes.

SPEYSIDE single malt whisky brand Tomintoul has released a further three expressions as part of its non-age statement cask finish collection.

Featuring a trio of different wine casks, the new additions include the Tomintoul Amarone Wine Cask Finish, Madeira Cask Finish and Tempranillo Wine Cask Finish. All three come with RRP of £43 and bottled at 40% ABV.

Each expression has seen an initial maturation period in American oak ex-bourbon casks before being finished in each of the experimental wine casks that were carefully selected by master distiller Robert Fleming.

Fleming said: “The latest non-age statement cask finishes are beautifully rich, complex and full flavoured thanks to the hand selected wine barrels sourced from Italy, Portugal’s Madeira Islands and Spain.

“Our distinctive finishing techniques help play a pivotal role in adding depth and complexity to our outstanding single malts.”

The Amarone Wine Cask Finish has been described as having flavours of summer fruit puddings, with raspberry coulis and ginger biscuits with a warming finish of honey and raisin porridge.

Meanwhile, the Madeira Cask offers a balance of melon, brambles and candied peels with chocolate mousse on the palate and a cosy finish of cake spices and cacao.

Finally, the Tempranillo Wine Cask Finish brings a mix of berry flavours and brandy snap biscuits married with white pepper, toasted oak and cappuccino coffee to deliver a more mature tasting palate and dark chocolate with raspberry on the finish.

Tomintoul has now built up its entire non-age statement collection to a total 10 single malts which has previously seen launches including a Caribbean Rum Cask Finish, Cognac Cask Finish as well as a host of finishes using European wine barrels.

Fleming said: “Our whisky portfolio highlights the versatility and craftsmanship at Tomintoul Distillery as we experiment with unique finishes to diversify the flavour profile, catering to different tastes and preferences.”
