GLASGOW-BASED wholesaler JW Filshill has strengthened its commercial team with the appointment of two new category buyers.

The two newly created positions are set to be filled by Kyle Byers (left) and Stuart Auld (right) who are set to take on the roles of category buyer for non-food and pet categories and category buyer for food and third-party supply respectively.

Chris Miller, chief commercial officer at JW Filshill, said: “The restructuring of our commercial team comes at a time when Filshill is growing and reflects changes in the marketplace, in particular tobacco/vaping which has become such a big part of our business and is a category with fast-moving trends/legislation that requires increased focus.

“Both Kyle Byers and Stuart Auld bring with them a wealth of experience in the wholesale sector and we are delighted to welcome them to the Filshill family as we expand our KeyStore estate and seek out the best deals for our customers across Scotland and the north of the England.”

Both Byers and Auld worked together at Cumbernauld-based wholesaler Southeast Traders with Byers also previously having worked at Fife-based confectionery specialist Rose Marketing. Auld also ran his own RS McColl store and has several years working in wholesale company Palmer & Harvey.

Both hires come as Filshill prepares to celebrate a landmark celebration in 2025 as the Scottish wholesaler is set to mark its 150th anniversary next year.

Speaking on his appointment, Byers said: “When the opportunity to join Filshill came up, I jumped at the chance to be part of a business that has people at its core – its staff, customers and suppliers.

“It’s refreshing, too, that the company pushes the importance of good work-life balance and involves staff in a wide range of issues including charity work and the community, health, wellbeing and mental health, and provides ongoing treatment.

Auld said: “For me, it’s important that my employer has a strong family focus and encourages teamwork as well as empowering staff to take decisions, make suggestions and speak up.”
