Pernod Ricard aims to bring the Scandinavian popularity for bag-in-box formats over to the UK.

SPANISH wine brand Campo Viejo has released a new bag-in-box (BIB) format just in time for the Christmas season celebrations.

A new format for the Winemakers’ Blend variant, the new BIB aims to further support the sustainability credentials of the brand according to Pernod Ricard, the firm behind the Campo Viejo brand.

Pernod said the new BIB pack will help to reduce the impact on the brand’s carbon footprint during transportation due to its lightweight format, that is when compared to glass bottle formats with the equivalent volume.

The Winemakers’ Blend BIB offers consumers 1.5 litres of the wine with an RRP of £15 and is available for purchase now from Sainsbury’s stores and online via Amazon.

The new Campo Viejo Winemakers’ Blend bag-in-box reflects the colour and vibrant Campo Viejo style synonymous with its distinctive wine bottles. The iconic bottle label features on the front and back of the box, containing the timeless Campo Viejo branding and three winemakers’ signatures.

Lucy Bearman, wine and champagne portfolio director at Pernod Ricard UK, said: “As the first BIB in our wine portfolio, its felt right to launch with our lead brand and the UK’s favourite Spanish wine.

“As the favourite format in the Nordic market, with over 50% of the wine category sold as BIB, we have some convincing to do on our home turf and our role as a leading wine brand in the market is to drive awareness of how this format ticks all the right boxes.

“Working collaboratively with retailers, we need to ensure the category is given more focus in store and that we are producing marketing collateral to land the message clearly and encourage shoppers to do things the Scandi-way.”
