The figures all add up for Spar Scotland wholesaler
THE relaunch of the Spar Scotland Freuchie store showed how confident wholesaler CJ Lang is about the future as it announced its latest financial results.
A party day at the refitted Fife shop saw £2,000 given to local good causes, while 100 goody bags and a variety of prizes were handed out to customers.
And CJ Lang has announced that pre-tax profits rose 10.3% to £3.7million and net turnover by 4.2% to £221.3million in the year ending 30 April 2023.
Pointing to the fact that the figures had been achieved despite the economic challenges, chief executive Colin McLean said: “Being genuinely Scottish has enabled us to adapt quickly and react flexibly to the ever-changing retail landscape.
“We have continued to provide a first-class service to our independent retail customers, consumers and communities at a time when they have needed us most.”
He also highlighted significant investment in forecasting and demand planning systems and across the company store estate, as well as expansion of the number independents.
Saying they were focusing on quality rather than quantity, McLean added: “We are now attracting the very best of Scottish retailers to join Spar Scotland thanks to our competitive wholesale delivered package and own-label Spar range, while sharing the best learning from our company store investment programme.”
The chief exec said record levels of spending and continuing momentum meant the new financial year was also off to a strong start.
Meanwhile, Spar Scotland has launched a BIG Deals of Christmas campaign that will see it offering consumers value-led savings on festive favourites every two weeks until the end of the year.
And as chairman Jim Hepburn emphasised CJ Lang’s charitable work, Spar UK revealed it has now raised £3million for Marie Curie since 2016.
