THERE was a spring in the step to Scottish footfall in the last month of 2022, according to the Scottish Retail Consortium (SRC).
The latest SRC-Sensormatic IQ data showed store visits decreased by 9.9% in December compared with the same pre-pandemic time in 2019. That was 5.1% better than November although worse than the UK average decline of 7.3%.
SRC director David Lonsdale said: “Buoyed by spending in the build-up to Christmas and discounting by retailers in the immediate aftermath, this was a far sprightlier and encouraging end to the year for shopper footfall in Scotland and the best results since the onset of the pandemic in early 2020.”
He added that sustaining the trend would be tricky given the economic gloom.
