Industry leaders united in sorrow and admiration

INDUSTRY leaders from across Scotland’s retail sector have expressed their sadness at the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II, while praising her service to the nation.

Pete Cheema OBE, chief executive of the SGF, commented: “Scottish Grocers’ Federation is saddened to hear that Her Majesty The Queen has passed away. Both SGF and our members convey our deepest condolences. The many decades of dedication and service by Queen Elizabeth II are a very special legacy which will live on. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this time.”

Jason Birks, national president of The Fed (formerly NFRN) also offered condolences on behalf of the independent retail sector.

He said: “Independent retailers are saddened by the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II. She served with unswerving duty, dedication and commitment. May she rest in peace. Our thoughts are with the King and his family.”

David Lonsdale, director of the Scottish Retail Consortium, said Scotland’s retail industry “joins the world in mourning the passing of Her Majesty The Queen.”

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the Royal family during this difficult time. For over 70 years, The Queen has been a source of solidarity and strength for this nation. Her loss will be felt across the country and she will be greatly missed,” he said.

Colin Smith, chief executive of the SWA, said: “The Scottish Wholesale Association is deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty The Queen and we, and our members, send our deepest condolences to the Royal Family.”
