PROPOSALS to restrict promotion and display of high sugar foods could soon shake up the confectionery category.
One way retailers can prepare is to introduce chocolate lines that do not breach HFSS limits.
That was the suggestion from Tim Hills, marketing manager at catering supplier JM Posner, which recently acquired wholesaler Chocobel.
Hills highlighted the firm’s Keto-Hero brand as the sort of chocolate product that can put retailers on the right footing if and when HFSS rules comes into force.
He said: “Chocobel has started stocking Keto Hero, a chocolate brand which is HFSS compliant and prides itself on being keto friendly.”
Keto Hero is available in three flavours, including a 75% Belgian Dark Chocolate variant which is suitable for vegetarians, vegans and those following a gluten-free diet.
Hill reckons this style of chocolate should tick the boxes with convenience shoppers.
“Thanks to the scale of the keto lifestyle, the marketing support for this new product is thriving.
“It is hoped that this will continue to grow and compete with other chocolate brands,” he said.
