Spar stores in Blantyre, Inchture, Motherwell, Scone and Kimmylies welcomed team members from the Scottish Government-funded scheme, who were on hand to distribute free apples, pears and bananas to local children.

Launched on a trial basis, the latest burst of Spar focused Healthy Living Programme activity ran from 16-23 March.

Last month’s free fruit trial in independents follows on from three trials that were completed across CJ Lang company-owned Spar stores earlier this year.

Paula Middleton, marketing manager for CJ Lang, said: “We are delighted to roll this campaign out to our independent network for the first time.

“The trial has proved very popular, and we are grateful to get such great support from our Spar retailers taking part.”

Healthy Living Programme director Kathryn Neil said: “Through the ongoing partnership that we have with Spar Scotland we aim to open the opportunities for all our younger generation to be tasting and accessing fruit and making this part of their everyday diet.”
