HALEWOOD Artisinal Spirits has released the first single malt whisky to be produced in Edinburgh for almost 100 years.
The latest John Crabbie & Co expression was created at the brand’s Chain Pier Distillery in Granton, Edinburgh. Just 234 bottles of the spirit have been released. Bottled at 57% ABV, Chain Pier Single Malt is available to order through specialist whisky shops, priced at £65 RRP.
Chain Pier Distillery was initially set up by Halewood as an experimental pilot distillery for its Crabbie Whisky brand, while its larger Bonnington distillery was still under construction.
In the short time that the Chain Pier distillery was open – between 2018 to 2019 – the expression yielded only 39 casks, which Halewood said made it one of the scarcest launches to date.
James Stocker, marketing director at Halewood Artisinal Spirits, said: “The launch of the Chain Pier Single Malt is an incredibly exciting step in the John Crabbie & Co journey, as the malt whisky that we have crafted from start to finish at a site of our own.
“The quality of the liquid is really the testament of our distilling team and master blender Dr Kirstie McCallum, and a great preview of what’s to come from the Crabbie whisky brand.”
