Free from set for a scorcher

Eisberg Alcohol-Free merlot

WHATEVER the weather, Scottish summer often means celebrating with a tipple – even if the barbecue weather fails to materialise.

However, with consumers increasingly considering their health in light of the coronavirus crisis, Andrew Turner – wine director at Halewood Wines and Spirits – has suggested alcohol-free wines like Eisberg Alcohol-Free could go well this summer.

“Retailers should be aware of the shift in consumer behaviour during lockdown. They are becoming reflective and considering their lifestyle choices and, as a result, we anticipate that they will seek high quality products, offering value for money, as they look to reduce alcohol intake,” he said.

Turner said to meet this demand, retailers should stock up on alcohol alternatives, and offer a breadth of choice for customers.

And when it comes to shopper missions, Turner said that while It’s unlikely that large social occasions will go ahead this summer, “people will find new ways of socialising,” highlighting an increase in video calls and online parties.

“Retailers should expect to cater for these events this summer,” he said.
