Belgian chocolate from Lanarkshire

COATBRIDGE-based confectionery brand Lees of Scotland has added some continental flavour to its lineup, with the launch of Meringue Shells dipped in Dark Belgian Chocolate.

Each pack of the new indulgent line contains eight meringue shells, with an RRP of £2.

Lees Meringue Shells dipped in Dark Belgian Chocolate contain no artificial colours or flavours, contain less than ninety calories, are gluten free and suitable for vegetarians.

Sheevaun Thomas, NPD project manager for Lees said that one of the key trends for 2019 will be to focus on delivering consumers more choice.

“We have recently launched our Meringue Shells dipped in Dark Belgian Chocolate, which are a new offering to our premium range.

“Chocolate is one of the strongest categories and continues to sell no matter what time of year it is.

“It’s a category that retailers cannot ignore.”

Thomas added that the “rise and popularity” of the big night in occasion has “contributed massively” to the category, meaning sharing pack formats like the meringue multipack are ideally placed to capture sales.

Established in 1931, Lees manufactures a broad range of branded confectionery and meringues.

The Lees range includes Snowballs in a variety of pack formats ranging from individually wrapped to an 18-pack sharing bucket; and a bars range with flavours including tablet, mint chocolate and macaroon.
