Nairn’s launches healthier biscuit
WHILE retailers may want to invest in extending their food to go range, many will be aware that restrictions on the sale of unhealthy food are looming on the horizon.
The latest product launch from Nairn’s, Coconut & Chia Oat Biscuits, should provide an option that both fulfils food to go missions and fits into potential health criteria.
Each new biscuit has 55% less sugar than the average sweet biscuit on the market.
This follows Nairn’s being recognised by Action on Sugar for producing biscuits with the lowest sugar content per 100g, and second lowest calorie content per biscuit.
The biscuits combine the health benefits of wholegrain oats with two trending ingredients, in the shape of coconut and chia.
Martyn Gray, MD at Nairn’s said: “As sugar continues to be under the spotlight, both from a retailer and consumer perspective, the launch of our new Coconut & Chia Oat Biscuits – the lowest sugar biscuit within our product range- couldn’t have come at a better time.
“With research showing that nine out of 10 people in the UK regularly eat sweet biscuits and that sugar content is a main concern for 85% of the population, we’re confident that our Coconut & Chia Oat Biscuits will appeal to a wide proportion of the market.
“Reducing sugar content vs. the market average has always been one of our main priorities when it comes to developing our sweet products.
“Our new Coconut & Chia Oat Biscuits shows our ongoing commitment to creating biscuits that not only taste great, but are healthy and are lower in sugar and calories.”
