TRIBUTES have been paid from across the retail and confectionery industries to Douglas Rae, who passed away at the age of 87 after a long illness.
After initially pursuing a career in banking, Douglas left the industry in 1959 to found the Golden Casket confectionary firm, producers of household names like Millions, Buchanan’s and One Pounders.
He established the company in his native Greenock, where he later became the proud chairman of Greenock Morton FC.
Golden Casket is still run by the Rae family, and is one of the largest employers in Inverclyde and among the biggest confectionary firms in Scotland.
mortonmomorbuchannDouglas only stepped down from his role as managing director in September last year, handing over the reins to his son Crawford Rae.
He is survived by his wife Adrienne and three children.
