A BID to give retail workers extra protection under the law has taken a significant step forward.
Scottish Labour MSP Daniel Johnson has secured the required support from fellow MSPs to introduce his shopworkers bill to the Scottish Parliament.
The proposed Protection of Shopworkers bill received backing from MSPs across all parties and will now be subject to the parliament’s three-stage scrutiny process which will include a debate at comittee level and in the parliamentary chamber.
Daniel Johnson commented: “I am delighted my proposed member’s bill has received more than the necessary cross-party support and will now move to the drafting stage.
“These proposals would ensure crimes against workers are taken seriously, with new criminal offences for those who abuse and are violent against staff.”
