Weekend working ended
LANARK biscuit manufacturer Border has introduced a new production schedule that it claims gives company employees a better work-life balance.
In January, the factory changed from a seven-day operation to a five day week with two weekday shifts sharing the production hours from 6am and 10pm.
Production manager Elaine Bone said the new system also provides stability and consistency in team-working with employees being split into smaller working groups of ten to 15.
Bone continued; “Previously, the plant ran on a rota which meant employees’ shifts changed weekly and included Saturdays and Sundays.
“The new operating system provides additional benefits by allowing extra time at weekends for deep-cleaning and engineering works.”
People are the heart and soul of our operation and the changes aim to provide a better work-life balance for all of our employees.
The family-owned company has previously offered staff members extra paid annual leave to support local initiatives through the Lanark Community Development Trust and Clydesdale Community Initiatives.
Border participates annually in the Great Place to Work Best Workplaces programme, which helps organisations to create and sustain high-trust workplace cultures.
With much of the workforce living locally, the firm says it cares about the Lanark community and donates 10% of its annual profit, as well as stock and people power, to local causes throughout the year.
Bone said: “People are the heart and soul of our operation and the changes aim to provide a better work-life balance for all of our employees.
“Working at Border is fantastic, we’re a community of biscuit-lovers that value team spirit and genuinely enjoy working together.
“Almost a third of my colleagues have been at the company for at least ten years, the new shift system is a great way to start the New Year and recognise the team for all of their hard work and dedication that makes our biscuits so exceptional.”
