Laughing in the face of adversity

Scotmid and Forth 1 launch ‘Kid in the Kitchen’ joke book

SCOTMID activity over the festive period was nothing to laugh at as the co-operative joined forces with Radio Forth 1 to raise funds for worthy causes through the sale of a charity joke book.

Funds raised from the sale of the ‘Kid in the Kitchen joke book’ – a collection of hundreds of jokes written by children across Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife – were split equally between Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids campaign and Samaritans.

Around 5,000 books went on sale at Scotmid stores for £2.99 following a launch event hosted by Scotmid’s Ratho store team and Forth 1’s ‘Boogie in the Morning’ breakfast presenters.

John Brodie, chief executive of Scotmid, which also sponsors Forth 1’s regular ‘Kid in the Kitchen’ segment said: “Our sponsorship of the Kid the Kitchen section during Forth 1’s Boogie in the Morning show has not only helped to promote our business but it has proved to be very popular and provided listeners with plenty of laughs over the past year.

“So the natural spin-off is that we produced the ‘Kid in the Kitchen’ joke books to sell in our Scotmid stores.

“It’s excellent that humour created by children in the Edinburgh, Lothians and Fife area will help us to raise funds for two great causes – our charity of the year, Samaritans and also Cash for Kids.”
