THE Scottish Government has launched a new campaign which aims to root out human trafficking in Scotland, and forecourt car washes have been flagged as one of a number of sectors where victims may be trapped in forced labour.
The campaign, which is being rolled out across social media, shows images of workers in a number of sectors including nail bars, fishing and car washes (right) with barcodes obscuring the faces of human trafficking victims.
Recent figures show there were 150 potential victims of trafficking identified in Scotland in 2016 – a 52% increase since 2013. However, the Home Office estimates that this is the tip of an iceberg with potentially 10-13,000 victims of trafficking being exploited in the UK.
