THE market for hot chocolate and malted drinks appears to be in rude health, according to Mars Chocolate Drinks & Treats, with the firm pointing to strong sales figures – particularly for hot chocolate.
The firm highlighted UK annual sales figures of £117m for the category, £88m of which are hot chocolate, as evidence there’s money to be made.
Michelle Frost, general manager for Mars Chocolate Drinks, said that the mix of brands and products on offer is good news for retailers.
“Combining strong brands, exciting, and innovative products and offering flexibility for both retailers and consumers has seen our range continue to grow.
“The complete range now includes options for those seeking a low calorie, malted, or indulgent hot chocolate,” she said.
Frost reckons quality is an “essential element” when it comes to hot chocolate and malted drinks, suggesting stocking trusted brands should go some way towards boosting hot beverage performance.
Health-conscious consumers shouldn’t be ignored either, according to Frost, as shoppers increasingly seek out healthier alternatives.
“The instant low-calorie hot chocolate category is becoming increasingly more popular, currently accounting for 16% of the total category,” she said.
